About Skylark

At Skylark Creative Therapy, we believe in nurturing quality of life at every age. Led by registered Art Therapist Angela Yuan and Business Manager Alice Wong, our practice provides accessible, compassionate mental health support for youth, adults, and the elderly.

We specialise in working with individuals affected by dementia, carers, neurodivergent individuals, and those navigating youth mental health, anxiety, or depression. Rooted in a person-centred, strength-based approach, our work celebrates creativity, imagination, and the unique potential within every individual.

As a community-focused practice, we provide a safe, inclusive space for creative engagement and emotional self-expression. We offer individual and group sessions at our Parramatta office as well as home visits. We also visit community centres and nursing homes to provide youth and aged care art-based programs.

About Art Therapy

Art has been a long-standing form of human expression and societal cornerstone for collective communication of the visual form. The long history of art being a type of record-keeping, ritual making and abstract self expression lends itself to a diverse creative process that is open to both internal and external exploration.

Art therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses the creative process of making art as an alternative form of communication, emotional expression, problem solving and self-awareness. There is no need to be good at art to have one’s own visual language.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior experience with art?

No, you don't need any prior art experience to participate in art therapy. Art therapy uses the art-making process to support emotional processing, and the therapist will guide and adapt activities to suit you. There is no expectation to produce a "finished" artwork by the end of the session.

Will I need to buy or bring my own art materials?

We provide a range of art materials, from paint to craft materials such as clay. If you are inspired during one of the sessions and would like to bring in your own materials to explore, we encourage you to discuss with the art therapist about it.

Similarly for home visits, we will bring the materials to you with no extra costs.

What is art therapy like?

Art therapy is open to all forms of art mediums as ways of expression. You could be attracted to one medium of art more than another, whereas others may like to dip their toes into multiple. We adopt person-centred approach in our therapy practice, so you get to define what you are interested in exploring each session.

Is art therapy covered by Medicare?

Art therapy is not covered by Medicare, and Skylark Creative Therapy is currently not linked to Medicare, the NDIS, or private health insurers.

However, we do offer concession rates for clients under 16 and for pensioners. Please contact us for current concession pricing and payment options.
